Independent Oversight for the $2 Trillion Private Credit Market

The Center for Private Credit Accountability advances transparency, accountability, and protection for borrowers, investors, and the public across the private credit market.

Our three pillars

Transparency

The private credit market lacks a centralized, independent record of borrower experiences and outcomes. CPCA is building that record through rigorous data tracking so borrowers, researchers, and institutional stakeholders can evaluate lending practices on evidence.

Protection

Borrowers frequently sign loan documents whose structures they do not fully understand. CPCA publishes plain language education on loan structures, interest reserves, personal guarantees, default provisions, and modifications.

Reform

Accountability requires rules that reach non-bank lenders. CPCA advances legislative and regulatory reforms designed to bring greater disclosure and accountability to private credit lending.

Why Now

The private credit market continues to grow with limited public disclosure around how loans are structured, modified, or enforced. Deepening ties between private credit funds, banks, insurers, and private equity firms create potential vulnerabilities across the financial system.

CPCA sees an important lesson in the years leading up to the 2008 financial crisis, when strains in credit markets emerged before the broader consequences were fully understood. CPCA does not equate today's private credit market with the mortgage driven market of that period, but believes the sector's rapid growth, limited transparency, and deepening connections across the financial system make early scrutiny essential.

"Through comprehensive borrower education, rigorous data tracking, and legislative advocacy, the CPCA champions fair access to capital and ensures that private lenders operate with accountability, integrity, and absolute respect for human dignity."
