James McManus
Founder and Executive Director
Placeholder biography. James McManus founded the Center for Private Credit Accountability after firsthand experience with private credit lending practices, including how loans are structured at origination and how those structures behave under stress, modification, and enforcement.
Placeholder biography. His work centers on borrower protection: documenting outcomes that are rarely disclosed publicly, translating loan mechanics into plain language for the borrowers who sign them, and pressing for disclosure standards that reach non-bank lenders.
Placeholder biography. He established CPCA's headquarters in Harlem at 181 West 135th Street, the landmarked former West 135th Street Branch YMCA, later known as the Jackie Robinson YMCA Youth Center.
