The Center for Private Credit Accountability (CPCA), a national nonprofit oversight organization, today announced its formation. The organization is headquartered at 181 West 135th Street in Harlem, the landmarked former West 135th Street Branch YMCA, later known as the Jackie Robinson YMCA Youth Center.
CPCA is dedicated to bringing transparency, ethical lending standards, and regulatory oversight to the alternative private credit market. Its mandate is not limited to any single class of borrower, industry, or type of private credit transaction. The organization works to protect independent real estate developers, small businesses, community builders, individuals, and investors from predatory lending practices while promoting greater accountability and responsible conduct throughout the private credit market.
The private credit market has grown to an estimated $1.5 to $2 trillion in assets (Financial Stability Board, Report on Vulnerabilities in Private Credit, May 2026), with assets under management projected to approach $4 trillion by 2030 (Moody's, Private Credit Outlook 2026).
"Through comprehensive borrower education, rigorous data tracking, and legislative advocacy, the CPCA champions fair access to capital and ensures that private lenders operate with accountability, integrity, and absolute respect for human dignity," said James McManus, Founder and Executive Director.
CPCA also serves as an independent vetting watchdog on behalf of union pension funds and institutional allocators, helping ensure that investment capital is directed away from predatory managers and toward transparent, responsible lenders.
